As the historic Supachalasai stadium in the heart of Bangkok filled to its allocated capacity, a wave of excitement built and swept through the stands; "Thai club football has reached the big leagues" In truth the excitement probably came from the knowledge that this is only the beginning of a new football culture that has the power touch and unite every level of society in Thailand.
BEC Tero opened up the scoring in the first half, Thai Port equalised a short time later. At this moment it looked like the match was to become a goal fest, but the scores remained 1-1 until the end of extra time. Penalties decided the 2009 champions which had a feature film ending. The man who has embodied the grit that is Thai Port FC, their leading goal scorer Pipat Tonkanya stepped up to fire home the final penalty.
Thousands of Thai Port fans celebrated as they watched their team lift the trophy and make a victory parade. Faithful BEC Tero fans showed true supporter spirit and sang as their players and staff saluted them. Thai Port club president K.Pichete shaved his moustache for the first time in 30 years. Soon after everyone was bound for Klong Toey, 7km down the road, an all night party awaited where Thai Port celebrates their first trophy in 16 years.
